Like I’ve said in the past 800 posts, I spent almost all of March sick. Therefore, that is my excuse for uploading this a month late–teehee. I swear I’m playing catch up on all of my blog posts!
Here is my monthly recap, where we talk about books I read, TV shows I watched, music I loved, and more.
March books

DEEP CUTS by Holly Brickley — It’s a Friday night in a campus bar in Berkeley, fall of 2000, and Percy Marks is pontificating about music again. Percy has no talent for music, just lots of opinions about it. The guy beside her at the bar, fellow student Joe Morrow, is a songwriter. And he could listen to Percy talk all night.
Joe asks Percy for feedback on one of his songs—and the results kick off a partnership that will span years, ignite new passions in them both, and crush their egos again and again. Is their collaboration worth its cost? Or is it holding Percy back from finding her own voice?
Moving from Brooklyn bars to San Francisco dance floors, Deep Cuts examines the nature of talent, obsession, belonging, and above all, our need to be heard.

EVERYTHING IS TUBERCULOSIS: THE HISTORY AND PERSISTENCE OF OUR DEADLIEST INFECTION by John Green — Tuberculosis has been entwined with humanity for millennia. Once romanticized as a malady of poets, today tuberculosis is a disease of poverty that walks the trails of injustice and inequity we blazed for it.
In 2019, John Green met Henry, a young tuberculosis patient at Lakka Government Hospital. John became fast friends with Henry, and in the years since that first visit to Lakka, Green has become a vocal and dynamic advocate for increased access to treatment and wider awareness of the healthcare inequities that allow this curable, treatable infectious disease to also be the deadliest, killing 1.5 million people every year. John tells Henry’s story, woven through with the scientific and social histories of how tuberculosis has shaped our world and how our choices will shape the future of tuberculosis.

BIG FAN by Alexandra Romanoff — Maya was a rising star in the political world until her ex-husband’s high-profile sex scandal nearly derailed her career. Landing a candidate like Teresa Powell is the fresh start she desperately needs. Suddenly, an email from her past sends her world spinning: Charlie, former lead singer of the boy band that fueled her teenage obsession, is staging a solo comeback and wants Maya’s help to make it happen. Turns out, she likes the grown-up Charlie and his genuine engagement with the world. Maya’s not about to ditch her political ambitions for a teenage crush, but if she can leverage Charlie to draw attention to the policies she cares about, shouldn’t she give it a try?

(this somehow ended up in my February recap post, but it was indeed a March read.)
TILT by Emma Pattee — Annie is nine months pregnant and shopping for a crib at IKEA when a massive earthquake hits Portland, Oregon. With no way to reach her husband, no phone or money, and a city left in chaos, she realizes there’s nothing to do but walk.
Making her way across the wreckage of Portland, Annie experiences human desperation and kindness: strangers offering help, a riot at a grocery store, and an unlikely friendship with a young mother. As she walks, Annie reflects on her struggling marriage, her disappointing career, and her anxiety about having a baby. She’s determined to change her life if she can just make it home.

March TV shows
Guys in March, I officially caught up with my Greys Anatomy rewatch! I’m still watching the episodes as they’re airing on TV, but for the sake of you get the f**king point, we’ll move on from that one, lol.

BLACK CLOVER — I guess consider this my new Greys Anatomy, lol. I can’t help it, I just love a nice long series. This has been such a fun ride so far, and as of the beginning of May, I fear I am still actively watching this, but! I highly recommend! It is so good and addicting. Definitely for fans of HUNTER X HUNTER and ATTACK ON TITANS.
GOOD AMERICAN FAMILY — Okay, catching up with Greys Anatomy plus Ellen Pompeo’s iconic appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast made me crave more of her. Naturally. I started her new Hulu original, Good American Family, and boy is it crazy. I just love Ellen Pompeo and I feel like I’ll watch any project she does. If you’re wanting a new thriller/suspense/fictionalized true crime show, I highly recommend.

March movies

MUFASA — Say what you want about Disney and their live action remakes. Bitch, I loved this movie and I literally don’t care what you say! I’m a Disney adult, plus I’m an avid animal lover and activist. Growing up, my favorite Disney movies were always the animal ones (Jungle Book, The Aristocats, Dumbo, etc.) instead of the princess ones, but The Lion King was and always will be my favorite. I ate this up and I don’t even care. Plus… Lin Manuel Miranda doing the music.. I mean.. come on.
Still struggling with my challenge of watching more than one movie a month but guys… give me some credit, okay? One is better than none. Plus, I saw this in the theater with Hayden, which we never get to do, so it was even more of a fun night.
March music

Top artist: SABRINA CARPENTER
Top song: THE GIVER by Chappell Roan
Favorite new release: FOREVER IS A FEELING by Lucy Dacus
Top albums

- THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT by Taylor Swift
2. ABBA GOLD by ABBA
3. AM by Arctic Monkeys
For the first time, I wanted to throw in an honorable mention. March was full of a lot of good new releases, and I had to choose Lucy Dacus because her album spoke volumes to me. Another one that I heavily debated putting was the single DON’T PUT IT ALL ON ME by Noah Cyrus & Fleet Foxes.

New thing I tried in March

In the first two pictures: I ran a 10k! I have never done this before, and since my first one (pictured here), I have managed to bring my time down to 72 minutes. I have really started to love running again, and I’m so proud of myself.
In the third picture: I started going to hot yoga again! I count this as a new thing, because I started going to hot yoga in my new body, which I have never done. I used to go a lot before I moved to Chicago, but I think this was the first time I had gone in several years. I ended up going twice in March and once in April.
Happy Spring, friends. I hope yours is going as well as mine is. Some days are stressful and some weeks are long, but I simply cannot complain. It’s early May as I type this, and April was such a blessing to me. March was great, but I can’t wait to tell you about April. Thanks so much for being here.
